ATN Starts Construction of New Premises

At the ground-breaking ceremony on 27 September 2007, CEO Torsten Hölzel officially initiated the construction of ATN’s new premises. ATN (the abbreviation stands for Applikationstechnik Neugersdorf) is a manufacturer of automated bonding systems and other equipment used in production plants throughout the world, mainly in the car industry.
The economic upswing in the processing industry has filled ATN’s order books, so that the company has outgrown its current site in Neugersdorf and began to search for a suitable location for new premises.
When ATN contacted the municipal administration of Oppach, the town’s mayor Stefan Hornig immediately prioritised the matter and offered ATN his authority’s support. That ATN decided to construct its new headquarters and production facilities in Oppach is not least a result of the authority’s fast and unbureaucratic action and the municipal council’s flexible cooperation. A considerable achievement, given the tough competition between the region’s numerous – and often underutilised – commercial areas.
With a two-hectare plot in the part of the Wassergrund commercial area lying within Oppach’s jurisdiction, ATN has now found the ideal site for its expansion. The construction plans comprise a production and assembly hall, an administrative tract with offices and a social area, as well as parking facilities. Weather conditions permitting, ATN hopes to complete structural work by the end of 2007. Once the interior is completed, operations are scheduled for full relocation from Neugersdorf to Oppach by mid-2008, with production commencing at the new site. With the creation of 65 jobs and apprenticeships for highly-qualified personnel in our area, Oppach is set to benefit from ATN’s relocation in several important ways:
- Since the rebuilding of Oppach’s mineral springs in 1993, ATN’s relocation represents the largest single industrial investment in Oppach. Together with the numerous trade and smaller commercial enterprises, the town’s economic structure is – slowly but surely – regaining its strength.
- With this relocation the community of Oppach has successfully completed its allocation of the available property of those parts of the Wassergrund commercial area lying within its jurisdiction: positive proof that the considerable financial investment in the development of the commercial area following Germany’s reunification has paid off.
- Especially for young people, ATN’s arrival in our community represents an excellent opportunity to find employment or n apprenticeship in their home town – a small but significant contribution to stemming the steady migration of young people away to the west.
- With its significant commercial value, this relocation will also have a positive impact on Oppach’s tax revenue. ATN’s expansion demonstrates that our region is a viable industry location. And ATN’s decision to make Wassergrund its new home sets a clear sign that Oppach itself is a desirable location!

“Oppach. This Friday, Saxony’s Prime Minister Georg Milbradt will attend the cornerstone ceremony for the new company headquarters of ATN Applikationstechnik Neugersdorf GmbH. Among other products, ATN develops and builds fully automated windscreen bonding, roof reinforcement and insulation assembly systems for Ford and Volkswagen. Because of its good order situation, the company aims to expand. “We have outgrown our present location in Neugersdorf”, explains managing partner Torsten Hölzel. On a 21,000 square metre site in Oppach, a new production and assembly hall as well as administrative facilities are now being built. The relocation – complete with all 65 employees – is scheduled for 2008. (SZ/hg)”
